About The Mall

One of Latin America’s largest centers for shopping, business and leisure

Inaugurated in 1981, the first shopping center in Barra da Tijuca is a landmark in the city’s development process, contributing to the occupation and growth of the Barra neighborhood. Today, the Barra is the area where most of the investment in Rio de Janeiro is taking place and, consequently, it has the greatest potential for development.

BarraShopping is the name of the largest multiuse complex in Brazil, which includes New York City Center, integrated   with BarraShopping through a 50-store corridor; the Centro Médico BarraShopping, with 45 clinics; the Centro Empresarial BarraShopping (BarraShopping Business Center), a set of 11 commercial buildings interlinked by a pedestrian walkway; and VillageMall, a new high-level shopping center.

For the ninth consecutive year, in 2018, BarraShopping was elected "the mall that is the face of Rio" in the “Carioca Brand" survey commissioned by O Globo newspaper.
